The Yamaha SR400 is a great bike to customize and this custom-built Yamaha SR400 cafe racer by Purpose Built Moto is a perfect demonstration of this.
Dubbed the Silver Surfer by Pipeburn, the bike is a beautiful and sleek demonstration of customization skills by Purpose Moto’s boss Tom Gilroy.
Let’s take a brief look at this unique machine and what makes it special.
Hard to Do Something New With the Venerable Yamaha SR400, But This Cafe Racer Is Unique
Purpose Built Moto came through with a unique cafe racer despite the fact that just about everything seems to have been done with the Yamaha SR bikes.
“Creating something different is a hard task with a donor bike as prolific as the SR400 or SR500. So when the project rolled into our workshop I was excited about the direction it would take. An SR400 Bobber, Slammed on its ass, with a low line silhouette. FUN!”
What’s interesting to me about this build is it blends bobber lines and cafe racer styling, so you get something in between the two. This is still very much a cafe racer motorcycle, but it’s somewhat segment-defying, which is what makes it special.
