This is the “Silver Surfer,” a crash-damaged 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 that was expertly converted into a pure dirt bike. The build was a project by Max Hind of the 999lazer YouTube channel, executed in a remarkable four days by mechanic and test rider Sean Smith.
The entire purpose of the build was to prove the low-cost, low-power Himalayan could survive the UK’s most grueling off-road endurance event, the Weston Beach Race, an event known for overwhelming even professional-grade motocross bikes.

The conversion focused heavily on stripping weight and sharpening performance. The builders removed over 65 pounds of street components, including the ABS and EVAP systems, to reduce the bike’s overall weight to a mere 375 pounds.
To maximize the 411cc engine’s output, they added an exhaust, a performance camshaft, and an upgraded air filter, boosting the power from 24 bhp to roughly 30 bhp, with fueling managed by a Fuel X Pro system. Critical modifications to improve off-road capability included YSS suspension upgrades, a modified rear linkage to increase ground clearance, and custom sprockets for better gearing.

The finished machine, which has the unexpected look of a vintage 1960s scrambler, is a triumph of function over form. Key custom work involved fabricating a one-piece seat and converting the fuel tank for an external pump.
Ultimately, the “Silver Surfer” became a testament to clever, budget-friendly engineering, proving that a humble Himalayan could be transformed into a durable machine capable of tackling the extreme challenges of the UK’s toughest off-road race.
