Can-Am Files Patent for Motorcycle With Hub-Steering That’s Gasoline Powered

I hope this bike makes it to production.

Can-Am has been home to reverse trikes, but the company will come back to two-wheeled motorcycles with some electric models. That said, the brand recently filed a patent for a unique gasoline-powered motorcycle with hub steering.

Can-Am’s Patent Filing for a Hub-Steering System is Interesting

So, there are two significant things here. First is that Can-Am has filed a patent on a two-wheeled gasoline-powered motorcycle. The second is the hub-steering system.

The hub steering system is probably more significant because it could be used on any motorcycle—electric or gasoline.

Cycle World uncovered the patent and noted that this new suspension design shares nothing with the upcoming Pulse and Origin electric motorcycles the company has already announced.

The publication went on to compare this design to the Ryker trike that Can-Am has been having success selling.

The steering system uses two single-sided swingarms that are parallel between the frame and the front hub. The spring is located above the swingarms. It appears to be a smart setup and reminds me of the Bimota Tesi which had a similar design.

The rest of the equation for this bike is pretty cool too, and seems to borrow heavily from the Ryker, which would mean a 600cc inline twin engine. I kinda think we’re looking at a two-wheeled Ryker, and that’s pretty exciting.
