Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire Electric Motorcycle Sounds Weird

The Harley LiveWire whirrs instead of rumbles and it’s kind of awesome.

For the record, I’ve always believed Harley’s path back to prominence wasn’t going to be through electric bikes. I don’t think the LiveWire will save the company.

I do, however, find something alluring about how freaking weird the electric motorcycle sounds in the video above.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather a Harley to sound like a Harley. I want Harley-Davidson to be the company that I know and love. Alas, that is going to change whether I like it or not. The company screwed themselves a long time ago. I hope it survives, but I fear a long and slow death is in its future.

The LiveWire is Kinda … Cool?

Anyway, I’m not too mad that the new LiveWire sounds like some kind of MIT science project. Or like what I expect a Boston Dynamics designed motorcycle would sound like if Boston Dynamics made motorcycles instead of creepy-ass robots.

The LiveWire looks fast. It needs to be fast and awesome if it’s going to sell. It will be interesting to see what the performance is like and even more interesting to see if people will actually buy it.

I would, but it’s definitely way out of my price range, which is how Harley got into this predicament in the first place. That, and the fact that it tried to be something it’s not.
