The Yamaha R9 is coming out swinging, and it’s bringing a proven heavyweight and a rising star into MotoAmerica’s Supersport ring for 2025. Reigning Supersport Champion Mathew Scholtz is back, armed with the #1 plate he earned with eight wins and a handful of podium finishes in 2024.
For Scholtz, a decade on Yamaha machinery has brought him here—R1 to R6, and now the all-new YZF-R9. It’s not just a ride; it’s a statement.
Get Excited for the Yamaha R9
Sharing the garage is 18-year-old Blake Davis, already two-time Twins Cup Champion and last season’s Rookie of the Year. Fresh off his first Supersport win, Davis isn’t just filling a slot—he’s aiming to make noise.
The stage is set with Peter Strack’s eponymous team at the helm. Strack Racing, young but resilient, took Scholtz to his 2024 crown aboard the R6 and now finds itself developing the R9 into Yamaha’s new weapon of choice. The competition will come fast and fierce, but with Scholtz’s experience and Davis’s fire, Yamaha is doubling down.
Come April 2025 at Barber Motorsports Park, the R9’s story begins. With Scholtz and Davis twisting the throttle, expect a season of thunder, sweat, and maybe—just maybe—another #1 plate in Yamaha blue. Learn more at Yamaha Racing.
