Looks like a regular jean jacket, has some special features.
I’ve discussed Viking Cycle jackets before, but now I have one of the company’s denim over shirts, and I thought it best to give you a hands-on review of the product to show you what it’s really like.
A sturdy denim jacket
First off, you should know that when Viking Cycle says over shirt what it really means is a jacket. This Viking Cycle Blue Denim Motorcycle Riding Over Shirt is less a denim shirt and more a denim jacket.
Good Quality and decent safety for the money
The denim feels pretty stiff and sturdy. It has stretch material built into the weave, and it feels like it would hold up pretty well in a slide as it’s thicker and sturdier than a regular denim shirt or a pair of typical jeans.
With that said, I doubt it would hold up quite as well as some of the higher dollar fabrics out there or leather. For a mere $50 you get something that will actually provide you with some good protection.
There’s CE-rated armor in the shoulders and elbows and there’s a pad in the back of the jacket, too. Although it is not CE-rated, you could always remove it and add a CE-rated back protector if you wanted.
The zippers, snaps, and buttons also feel pretty chunky and sturdy. I can’t speak for how they’ll hold up over time, but my first impressions were good.
Plenty of Pockets and Features
There are a total of five pockets on the jacket. There are two chest pockets and two lower zippered pockets. Inside there’s one large zippered pocket that can work for a phone, concealed carry, wallet, etc. All pockets are pretty large and I had no trouble taking what I needed to have with me.
There’s also a mesh liner that is comfortable but not removable. It still lets airflow into the jacket. Speaking of airflow, there’s two large chest vents and one large exhaust vent at the back of the jacket. I found airflow on a hot day to be more than satisfactory. I was actually surprised by how much air moves through this jacket.
There’s also adjustment at the wrists and waist as well as a zipper at the back of the jacket that will let you zip it to your motorcycle pants if you choose.
Stylish and Comfortable
I wouldn’t go as far to say that I’d wear this jacket out for a night on the town when I’m not riding, but I do think it’s a stylish piece of gear. Most of Viking Cycle’s gear is pretty stylish.
As far as comfort goes, the jacket is plenty comfortable for riding. It fits me well. I’m not a huge guy and after measuring myself and looking at the sizing chart I realized I’m kind of between a small and a medium. I had Viking Cycle send me a medium and I think it was a good choice.
If I wanted a tighter fit, I could have probably squeezed into a small, but then I believe it would have been pretty tight. As it is right now, I could wear a sweatshirt underneath and wear this jacket for more of the year, which I’ll probably do, to be honest.
In conclusion
I think Viking Cycle has a pretty good piece of gear here for the money. You can bet that the company’s other jackets are more of the same.
Are there better and safer jackets out there? You bet. There are jackets that will make this one look pretty bad.
However, for $50, you’re not going to do much better than this sturdy denim jacket with CE-rated armor. If you’re on a budget and want something that provides style, comfort, and a decent amount of protection, then this is a good choice.
NOTE: Viking Cycle provided the jacket for me to review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.
