It appears TVS will have an electric branch soon. The company recently acquired Ego Movement, a Switzerland-based electric bicycle company. In July it announced a focus on electrified vehicles.
Now the company has announced it will launch its own TVS electric subsidiary. This subsidiary won’t just sell electric bikes, it will conduct business at every level from conception vehicles to sales.
TVS is a major player in the Indian motorcycle and scooter industry, and it owns many well-known brands including Norton.
TVS Electric – What This Means
At its most simple level, it means there’s an even bigger focus on electric motorcycles and scooters in the future. With such a big player like TVS focusing a large portion of its resources on EVs, you can bet that will accelerate growth in the space.
According to Gaadi Waadi, the company has contracted the help of 500 engineers, and it will have six new models soon.
The acquisition of Ego Movement will likely help in their efforts, but I’d imagine the company will spread the love up and down its range of upcoming bikes and go far beyond just offering some modern electric scooters or commuter motorcycles.
There’s also the chance that the technology pioneered inside this new subsidiary will bleed over into the other brands and companies that TVS helms. What that could mean down the road is that even companies like Norton could get some electrification in the future.
This refocus will birth some interesting things in the future, and you’ve got to love that innovation is purposely being pushed here. I can’t wait to see what comes out of this new subsidiary. Personally, I have my heart set on an electric Norton, but that’s likely years down the line at this point.
If you don’t love the idea of that leave me a comment as to why, and if you’re on the hunt for a gas-powered Norton motorcycle, check out eBay’s listings.
