If you’re looking for a motorcycle that blends elegance, performance, and attitude into one machine, then Triumph wants you to buy the Speed Triple 1200 RR.
I can’t lie, Triumph’s description on its website of the machine seems to be darn accurate. It’s a sleek high-performance machine that’s distinctly Triumph while still providing something new.
The bike is a modern cafe racer with a single round headlight a small fairing and dastardly good looks. I wanted one as soon as I laid eyes on it.
Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR – The Next Level
The Speed Triple 1200 RR is more of a track-focused machine than the Speed Triple RS.
this bike features some clip-on handlebars. These sit a full five inches lower than the RS bars. The footpegs were moved up and slightly back to give a sportier riding position. The seat is just slightly lower.
The suspension has been upgraded to Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronically-adjustable semi-active suspension system at the front and the rear. The wheels are 17-inch cast aluminum and these wheels are clad in a set of Diablo Supercorsa SC2 V3 tires.
The engine is the same liquid-cooled 1160cc inline-three cylinder that’s in the Speed Triple RS. It makes 177 hp and 92 lb-ft of torque. The engine also gets a six-speed transmission and a slip-and-assist clutch. This quick shifter is derived from Triumph’s Moto2 involvement.
The bike comes with five rid modes, IMU, cornering ABS, switchable cornering traction control, and front-wheel lift control. The RR also gets cruise control that’s fully adjustable, five-inch TFT display, and a keyless system.
If you want the bike, you’ll have two color options. There’s a Red Hopper and Storm Grey combo and a Crystal White and Storm Grey combo. Gold stripes are included on both bikes.
There’s plenty of accessories you can buy, which will put the price over the base MSRP. Speaking of price, this bike will start at $20,050. That’s $2,450 over the Speed Triple RS. Considering the updates and the sleek style, I think that’s a super reasonable price.
