The 1969 film Easy Rider has one of the most iconic motorcycles ever, a bike known as Captain America.
This motorcycle is quintessentially American and, of course, it’s a Harley-Davidson.
The motorcycle features an American flag motif on the gas tank and elsewhere on the bike and a ton of chrome. The iconic motorcycle is ridden by Peter Fonda in the movie, and there’s nothing else out there like it.
The Easy Rider Captain America Motorcycle
The motorcycle is a chopper. It became a symbol for the anti-establishment and counter-culture movement, and it still represents this today.
Before the film came out, choppers, like the Easy Rider Captain America Motorcycle had been around, but the film helped popularize them. According to Autoevolution, the motorcycle that featured in the film sold in October of 2014 for $1.35 million.
The bike is heavily customized. According to reports, it started out as a 1952 HD Hydra-Glide. Others say it was a 1962 Panhead with tons of modifications. There were between two and four bikes used for filming.
One was destroyed in the final scene of shooting, and surprisingly, all others were stolen right before the premiere of the movie.
The motorcycle that sold in 2014 is expected to be a recreation or replica by some. Others believe it really is the bike that was in the movie.
One thing is for sure, though, the Easy Rider Captain America Motorcycle will always be an iconic machine.
