The TaoTronics Sound Liberty 53 wireless earbuds deliver a quality experience, but they’re not for motorcyclists.
Wireless communication devices and wearable tech—like the TaoTronics Sound Liberty 53 Earbuds—are all the rage right now, and it’s warranted.
Find the right product and you have something that can make your life easier and generally better. The same goes for motorcyclists.
That’s why I was happy when TaoTronics reached out to me to review its wireless earbuds. The company wanted the perspective of a motorcyclist.
With that in mind, here’s my review of the product.
The TaoTronics Sound Liberty 53 Wireless Earbuds Do What’s Advertised
The TaoTronics Sound Liberty 53 Wireless Earbuds are essentially a generic version of Apple’s AirPods.
The earbuds have many of the same features and provide you with top-quality sound for listening to music, taking calls, etc.
What You Get
The package is essentially three separate items. The first is the charging carrying case. The other two are the earbuds themselves.
It also comes with a charging cable, but I found that any micro USB charger worked. If you have an Android phone, you have a charger for these.
How The Earbuds Work
You can also choose to wear just one or both at the same time. It doesn’t matter which you choose.
Once the device is paired to your phone via Bluetooth, which was very easy, it will connect automatically after you remove either one of the earbuds or both earbuds from the charging carrying case.
Once connected and paired, you can control the audio via the earbuds themselves through a series of taps.
If you have both in at the same time, you can tap once on the right one to raise the volume and once on the left one to lower the volume. If you double-tap on either earbud, you will pause or play the audio. If you triple-tap you’ll skip to the next track.
When it comes to taking phone calls, once you get a phone call, it’s a simple single tap to take the phone call. It’s two taps to end the call. There’s also the option to do two swipes to decline a call.
If you do the two swipe action when you don’t have a call on, you’ll activate voice command. You can then talk to Siri.
Putting the earbuds back in the charger carrying case will turn them off.
Impressions
When I received the TaoTronics Sound Liberty 53 Wireless Earbuds, I was impressed by the quality. The case is compact and feels well built, the same goes for the earbuds and charging the device up was as easy as plugging it in.
The earbuds felt good in my ears, too and came with a variety of tips for people with different shaped or sized ears.
I wrestled for years, so it was nice to have these extra tips due to the fact that my ears are kind of mangled.
Overall, I found these to be good wireless earbuds for the price and they’ll work with any Bluetooth device.
They’re Not the Best Option for Motorcyclists
Now we get to the motorcycle part. These are not good earbuds for motorcyclists, because you can’t use any of the features that make them special.
Sure, you can listen to music and take calls, but if you have any helmet on that isn’t a half helmet, you can’t do any of the tapping or swiping you need to be able to do to skip tracks, adjust volume, pause or play audio, or take phone calls.
If you don’t wear a helmet, then these could work, but I’d be worried about losing them. The earbuds fit snugly in your ears, but at speeds over 35 mph, I’d be worried about the wind blowing them out.
If you just want some good wireless earbuds to listen to music while you ride, then these will work, but you’ll be better off with a Bluetooth comm system from Cardo or Sena.
These systems are designed with the motorcyclist in mind from the start. While TaoTronic’s earbuds will do some things well, they can’t do everything that a typical motorcycle Bluetooth comm system can.
Because of this, I’d say that while these are good earbuds, they’re not the best choice for motorcyclists.
