Will a Sportier Small-Displacment Bike Join the Harley-Davidson X440?

In a move to strengthen its presence in the small-displacement motorcycle market, Harley-Davidson, in collaboration with Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp, is expanding its 440cc lineup.

This partnership, which began in 2020, has already produced the successful Harley-Davidson X440, a single-cylinder roadster aimed at a younger, more global audience.

The X440 Was Just the Beginning

Building on the success of the X440, the two companies have extended their collaboration to develop new variants and an entirely new motorcycle. This strategic move allows Harley-Davidson to leverage Hero MotoCorp’s extensive manufacturing capabilities and market knowledge in India, the world’s largest two-wheeler market.

The X440 itself has proven to be a formidable competitor in its segment, featuring a 440cc air-oil-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 27 horsepower and 28 pound-feet of torque. It comes equipped with modern features like a TFT display, all-LED lighting, and dual-channel ABS, offering a blend of classic Harley styling with contemporary technology and performance.

While the X440 has been a hit in India, where it competes with models like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Triumph Speed 400, it has not yet been introduced to the American market.

The new models, which could include a scrambler or other variants, are expected to be available in “select international markets,” signaling a continued push by Harley-Davidson to diversify its global offerings beyond its traditional heavyweight cruisers. The new motorcycle is reportedly set to debut in September.
