The Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves are as Simple as it Gets
Recently I picked up a pair of Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves. I’d intended to use these as work gloves and still do. However, I thought it’d be smart to evaluate them as motorcycle gloves, too.
While I’d advocate for something that’s designed specifically for motorcycle riding, I’ll say that I know a lot of guys who like to wear light leather gloves when on the bike, and I have to say some gloves are better than no gloves.
Let’s take a look at what the Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves, and what they offer. Then I’ll look at them as motorcycle gloves and give my recommendation as to whether or not you should wear them.
What are The Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves?
The Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves are simple gloves They’re just leather and well put together. Here are some details:
- Reinforced double-layer palms with 3-rows of double stitching.
- Durable heavy-duty stitching.
- Elastic wrist for a tailored fit.
- Designed for comfort and maximum dexterity.
As you can see from the details above, these gloves offer some good traits. While they are not advanced, they certainly offer what a lot of people look for in some sturdy work gloves.

Are They Any Good?
Yes. These leather gloves are good, simple leather gloves. They’re strong, sturdy, and comfortable. I have used them for moving rocks and other materials around my yard, as well as doing other yard work. They do a good job.
They go on easy and don’t slip around on your hand. The interior is soft and the exterior provides a good grip on whatever you’re handling.
I bought a size large, and I think I should have gone down a size. I think I’d honestly be somewhere between sizes on these, my hand measures 3 5/8 inches in width. In some gloves, that’s a medium in others it’s a large, but it really just depends.
With these gloves, I’d suggest someone with my size hands to get a pair of medium gloves. They would fit a little more snugly and that would be a good thing. Plus they’re bound to stretch over time. There’s just a little too much room in the ones I have.
Should You Wear Them as Motorcycle Gloves?
In short, I wouldn’t recommend these as motorcycle gloves. They simply don’t provide enough protection. There are many other pairs of gloves out there that are far better for the purposes of riding a motorcycle.
However, if you’re the kind of rider who just wants to wear a simple pair of leather gloves when on your bike, then I will say that these aren’t the worst option out there.
They’re comfortable, they look good, and they do provide some minimal protection for your hands. I have a mini bike that I race and do wear them sometimes when riding that bike. Speeds are lower and I’m not always on the pavement, so these gloves make sense there. When I’m out on my street bike, though, I prefer my Speed and Strength The Quick And The Dead Gloves. They provide more protection.
The Plainsman Cabretta Leather Gloves are really more of a work glove than anything else, but they will suffice if you don’t plan on having any of the other modern levels of protection that you can get with legitimate motorcycle gloves with things like palm sliders, knuckle protection, and more.
