In Paris, they’ve made life just a little harder for the everyday folks trying to get around. The mayor’s decision to limit the ring road speed to 31 mph might sound like a small tweak, but for riders, it’s a wrench in the gears. You see lane filtering in Paris (actually in all of France) is allowed under certain conditions, one being that speeds must be over 46 mph. Now? Forget about it.

And it’s not just about rules and regulations—it’s a matter of survival for many. Commuters who can’t afford Paris’s steep prices have no choice but to ride in from the suburbs. These same workers, hailed as heroes during lockdowns, are now left out in the cold.

Jean-Marc Belotti of the FFMC says it straight: this law is a slap in the face to those already on the fringes. The FFMC isn’t sitting still, though. They’ve teamed up with the Drivers Defense League for a protest on October 20th, and they’re crowdfunding for a class-action lawsuit.
