Kawasaki Hydrogen Motorcycle Plans Revealed

Hydrogen-powered cars have been a thing for a little while now, but motorcycles utilizing a hydrogen powertrain haven’t existed. Kawasaki wants to change that.

According to a new report by Cycle World showing images from AutoBy Kawasaki is working on an engine that will be internal combustion and utilize hydrogen for fuel.

Let me explain what I can about how this came to be.

Kawasaki Goes After Hydrogen Power

So how did this become a thing? Well, as Cycle World points out, the original prototype offered a dual-injection design that combined conventional port fuel injection with high-pressure direct gasoline injection.

Now Kawasaki has fussed with the engine to get it to run on hydrogen, meaning the vast majority of the exhaust would be H2O. Obviously, this would be a much cleaner engine than a gasoline engine.

Also, because of the design with the supercharger (yes, the H2 engine tech), Kawasaki would actually get better power output than it would with a gasoline-powered engine.

Make no mistake, Kawasaki is working on this bike. Apparently, there are already design sketches for it. It’s unclear when this motorcycle will be available for sale, but some expect it to hit in 2035, which really isn’t all that far away.
