Q4 was good but 2022 was down.

Harley-Davidson reported its sales for 2022 and they showed a drop in sales of eight percent overall. There was a lot of good news for Harley-Davidson, and that means there’s a lot of good news for the motorcycle industry overall because Harley is such a big player.

Harley-Davidson Has Some Good News, Though

Harley may have had a drop in sales overall, but actual shipments of motorcycles increased from 2021 to 2022. In 2021, the company shipped 188,000 bikes. In 2022 the company shipped 193,500.

In Q4, the company saw an 18 percent increase in shipments over Q4 of 2021. This is all good news for the company. They’re getting more bikes to customers.

Now, with shipments in mind, what does this mean for actual sales? As I said, sales did drop. The company sold 117,100 new bikes in North America, a drop of 13 percent. In EMEA, Harley sold 30,500 bikes, down one percent. In the Asia-Pacific region, Harley managed to sell 27,900 bikes, which was a drop of 20 percent.

Overall, the drop was eight percent. It is important to note, that this doesn’t include LiveWire sales. That said, not many bikes sold for LiveWire. Only 597 bikes. Still, this is more than it sold in 2021 and reaches the company’s goals, so that is some seriously good news. However, LiveWire is still, right now, operating at a loss. But things are moving in the right direction in my mind.

It will be interesting to see what Harley does in 2022. The company is at a pivotal point this year, and I could see things going either way.
