There’s a stone cottage tucked away in Netherton, Angus—a piece of Scottish soil teetering on the edge of history and modernity, once the home of Alexander ‘Sandy’ Davidson and his wife, Margaret. Their son would go on to father William A. Davidson, a name that would soon be synonymous with the unmistakable roar of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. That little house—the Davidson Legacy Cottage—now marked for demolition, holds a link to the birth of an American icon.
Saving the Davidson Legacy Cottage With a Little Help From Friends
If the Davidson Legacy Preservation Group has anything to say about it, that cottage won’t get demolished. With a heart full of hope and a GoFundMe goal of £70,000, they’re fighting to save the cottage. Their vision goes beyond bricks and mortar—it’s about preserving the heartbeat of a story that stretches from Scotland’s rugged hills to the open highways of America.
Nyree Aitken, Volunteer Coordinator for the campaign, speaks of this project with reverence. “The cottage is more than just a house,” she says. “It’s a doorway into the past, a reminder of the Davidson family’s journey.”
A £250,000 grant from the UK Government has already given them a running start, but that ticking clock demands more. With community workshops, a café, and a heritage hub in mind, they’re asking the public to dig deep.
Each contribution, no matter the size, brings them closer to preserving a small stone house that holds a massive legacy. Save the house, save a chapter of Harley-Davidson’s untold story.
