When I look for a one-piece riding suit, the first thing I look for is for something that’s waterproof. I’m most likely to don a suit when it’s raining. Yes, a good pant and jacket combo can keep you dry, but a suit just seems to do the job better.
From there, I look for airflow panels. Suits can get hot. The more vents and panels you have for airflow the better. Having zip-out or removable liners is also a major plus.
After that, take a look at the construction of the piece of gear itself. You want something that is made of materials with good abrasion resistance and strong (often tripled) stitching.
Then it’s on to armor. Not all riding suits, especially those focused on waterproofing (rain suits) will come with armor, but even if they don’t having the pockets to add some is a smart move.
Next, it’s all about usability and functionality. Is it easy to get on and off? Does it have plenty of external pockets? What about internal pockets? All of these things matter. Read up on the reviews to find out all you need to know.
