Ducati came out with several new motorcycles for 2021, but the one I’m most excited about is the new Ducati Monster.
While the overall style of the new Ducati Monster is similar to the previous model years for the Monster, the bike has come with some significant changes.
These include a departure from the trellis frame that has been a key feature for so long and a version of the engine found in many of Ducati’s other motorcycles.
Ducati Monster Details
The engine in this new Ducati Monster is the same Euro 5 version of the 937cc Testastretta engine that’s in several other bikes from the brand, including Hypermotard 950, Multistrada 950, and SuperSport 950.
This new Monster gets some changes to that engine, though. There’s a new crankshaft, connecting rods, timing belt cover, and clutch cover. The transmission is also different. What you end up with is 111 hp at 9,250 rpm and 68.7 pound-feet of torque. Not bad numbers, to be sure.
Now for the big change. Instead of utilizing the iconic steel trellis frame, Ducati went with aluminum for the front of the bike and a subframe made of fiber-reinforced polymer. That gets you a 366-pound dry weight and 414-pound wet weight.
All told, while this new Monster might not be the bike that we all know and love, it is still a Monster and should be quite thrilling to ride.
