BMW’s latest spin on an old legend, the 2026 BMW R 12 G/S, is a love letter to the iconic R 80 G/S—the bike that practically birthed adventure touring.

Gone is the “Urban” pretense of the R nineT variant, and in its place is a machine that means business, with a 21-inch front wheel, longer suspension travel, and off-road-ready ergonomics.

The 2026 BMW R 12 G/S Looks Like an Awesome Throwback

The air/oil-cooled 1,170cc Boxer engine cranks out 109 horsepower and 84.8 lb-ft of torque (placing this in the 1,200cc category), nestled in a revised steel spaceframe that raises the steering head for better control in the rough stuff. Suspension is serious: a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork up front, Paralever shock in the rear, and a plush 8.3 inches of travel to smooth out whatever the trail throws at you.

The Brembo brakes, lean-sensitive ABS, and a suite of electronic aids—Rain, Road, and Enduro modes, with Enduro Pro available—ensure that the ride is as controlled as it is thrilling.

BMW gives you choices: a solo seat, a two-up option, or a Rallye Seat that pushes saddle height past 34 inches. If that’s not enough, the Enduro Package Pro throws in bigger pegs, a bar riser, and an 18-inch rear wheel. A round analog gauge keeps things classic, but a TFT screen is on tap for the tech crowd.

Starting at $16,395, the R 12 G/S lands in Q3 2025, primed for riders looking to relive the glory days of adventure—only now with a whole lot more refinement.
