You might be wondering if motorcycle jackets for new riders are really necessary. Can’t you wear your everyday jacket? Yes, and no. You can wear whatever you want (it’s a free country), but I would advise you to get a good jacket.
However, you don’t need to go all out with your first jacket. All you need is something that’s going to provide you with some good protection from the elements and from the road should you go down.
The following jackets are perfect examples of motorcycle jackets for new riders simply because they don’t break the bank and they offer good protection and features. Check them out below.
First Manufacturing Top Performer Jacket
If you’re on a cruiser or a standard motorcycle or even a cafe racer, First Manufacturing has plenty of great options for you, and the Top Performer Jacket is one of the best for new riders.
The jacket features full leather construction, a generous American cut, a snap Mandarin-style collar, some padding in the shoulders, vented and zippered chest pockets, two lower zippered pockets, zipper vents on both sleeves, two interior pockets, and grommets under the arms for airflow.
This jacket also comes with a full-sleeve zip out liner (for those colder days) and pockets for additional armor (sold separately from the jacket). It’s important to note that these jackets run a bit big, so size up.

Icon Mesh AF CE Jacket
If you’re looking for a great summer or hot weather jacket, then make sure to check out the Icon Mesh AF CE Jacket.
It’s a fantastic lightweight mesh jacket that offers Icon’s Attack Fit, a durable textile chassis, and removable CE approved back, elbow, and shoulder armor. For the price you’re getting a hell of a jacket.
This jacket would work for sportier machines, but there’s no reason you couldn’t rock one on a modern muscular cruiser. I’d certainly do so on my own bike.

Sedici Avventura Waterproof Jacket
One of the most versatile jackets on the market can be had for a really fair price. It’s the Sedici Advventura Waterproof Jacket. Sedici is a Cycle Gear in-house brand, but don’t let that dissuade you. Much of the brand’s gear is actually quite good, and this particular jacket is no joke.
It offers a unique 3-layer construction that allows for maximum versatility. The jacket comes with an abrasion resistant 450D Oxford fabric shell, a removable waterproof breathable liner, and a removable thermal liner.
The jacket also features an airflow system throughout the jacket to keep you cool, with zippered vents. It has an adjustable inner waist belt, sleeve adjustment, and CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows. There’s a memory foam protector in the back that you could easily upgrade to something else if you wanted to.
