Italian firm Benelli has some future adventure bikes in the works. Recently photos and details for the new TRK702 and TRK702X leaked, according to Cycle World.
This new adventure bike will seek to take on BMW’s F800 GS and Yamaha’s Tenere 700.
This new 702, which has been type-approved in China, from Benelli will utilize a CFMoto-produced engine. The company has its own 700CL-X and Benelli is using that for the TRK702.
Benelli – Middleweight Italian Adventure by Way of China
Benelli and CFMoto are company cousins, meaning there’s a connection there via Qianjiang. Much of what you see in Benelli’s lineup is from Chinese bikes, like the small adventure bike, the Benelli TRK502.
Cycle World notes that Benelli won’t just have one middleweight adventure bike, but two. The company plans to release a 693cc bike (the TRK702) and a 745cc bike (a TRK750 or TRK800).
It’s an odd state of affairs. To make matters worse, Qianjiang recently filed patents for a third middleweight adventure bike but with a V-twin rather than a parallel twin.
Suffice to say, there’s a whole heck of a lot going on with Benelli’s adventure bike lineup. What I don’t know is how things will totally shake out. However, I’m sure we will see one of these middleweight machines make production and hit showroom floors soon.
