Brembo acquires Ohlins

Brembo, the Italian titan in braking systems, has struck a $405 million deal (USD) to acquire Swedish suspension maestro Öhlins, making it one of the biggest parts and accessories companies out there. This acquisition is expected to close in early 2025, pending regulatory green lights. For Brembo, it’s like adding the perfect suspension setup to an already fine-tuned race machine.

Brembo’s move comes hot on the heels of cashing out a 5.58% stake in Pirelli for €282.9 million earlier this month. The buyout, paid in full cash, sees Brembo tightening its grip on premium motorcycle componentry, adding Öhlins’ suspension prowess to its braking dominance. Brembo’s Executive Chairman, Matteo Tiraboschi, hailed the deal as a key step in delivering “integrated intelligent solutions” to customers.

Öhlins, known for its gold-standard suspension, employs around 500 people, with operations stretching from Sweden to Thailand. Its projected revenue for 2024 is around US$144 million, with a solid EBITDA margin of 21-22%.

This deal builds on Brembo’s two-wheeled expansion, following recent acquisitions of SBS Friction and J.Juan, plus a new factory in Thailand. For Öhlins, this partnership promises more than just stability—it’s a launchpad for the next level in racing and road performance, and Tenneco, Öhlins’ current owner, is on board with the shift.
