MATTER Motor Works has raised $25 million in a new growth round, giving the Indian electric-motorcycle maker fresh capital for production, dealerships, and additional models based on its AERA platform.
The company has moved beyond pilot manufacturing, but its next phase will test whether a mid-premium electric motorcycle can win buyers who still compare it with petrol-powered Pulsar and Apache models.
From Pilot Runs to Higher Output
MATTER started manufacturing in October 2024 and produced roughly 1,500 to 1,600 vehicles during its pilot period. Monthly capacity had been held near 100 to 200 units, while the company now says it can produce close to 1,000 vehicles each month.
That figure is planned to rise to 2,500 and eventually 5,000 units per month by the end of the financial year. The expansion matters because the company has been building a retail network while keeping production deliberately limited.
MATTER currently has 30 dealerships in 21 cities, with nearly 50 locations targeted by the end of 2026 and about 100 more touchpoints planned during the following calendar year. The initial focus is western and southern India, where the company sees stronger early demand for electric vehicles.
Four More Motorcycles Are Planned
The AERA platform is also expected to support four new motorcycles aimed at the 150cc to 200cc segment. MATTER says those models should land between ₹1.6 lakh and ₹2.2 lakh, putting them closer to mainstream motorcycle territory than many high-priced electric alternatives.
The company says cells, magnets, and semiconductor components remain imported, while downstream assembly is handled locally. It has filed 450 patents, with 111 granted, and says the new funding will go mainly toward distribution, manufacturing capacity, and the expanded product range.
For riders, the practical question is whether higher output will bring shorter waits, more service coverage, and a broader choice of electric motorcycles. MATTER’s next step is less about proving that the AERA can be built and more about putting enough of them in front of buyers.
