Zero Motorcycles in 2022: New Bikes, Batteries, and More

2022 Zero SR

Zero Motorcycles is one of the leaders in the ever-growing electric motorcycle space.

Now, Zero Motorcycles in 2022 is bringing the heat. The company has a new SR motorcycle, new battery technology, and higher-performing motorcycles.

It’s going to be a brave new electric motorcycling world, and Zero is pushing to be at the front of the competition despite the surging competition.

Zero Motorcycles in 2022 – A New Future Comes This Way

Zero motorcycles battery

Say what you will about electric motorcycles, one thing is certain: they’re becoming more popular all the time.

For 2022, Zero has a new battery that offers up to 20 percent more capacity, opening new doors. This is possible through advancements in battery architecture. Zero offers 14.4+ kWh and 15.6+ kWh versions.

According to the company’s recent press release: “The larger 15.6+ kWh battery configuration will be available on the premium street models of the 2022 SR/S and SR/F and the 14.4+ kWh will come on standard SR/S and SR/F as well as the all-new 2022 SR.”

So what does this mean? It means you can now get more miles out of your bike. With this breakthrough, you can get up to 227 miles/365 km of city range and 113 miles/182 km at 70 mph.

“Being the brand that both defined and continues to lead the category of electric motorcycles means that we have the responsibility to push the boundaries of what is possible in electric powertrains. We consistently work to deliver massive steps forward and not just incremental improvements to our powertrains and our products,” said Sam Paschel, CEO of Zero Motorcycles.

“As part of that effort, a relentless focus on range improvements, driven by battery capacity and powertrain efficiency, provide the foundations that allow us to transform the rider’s experience and drive acceleration in electric vehicle adoption and sales. These leaps forward in battery technology in our 2022 model line have set a new standard for Zero Motorcycles.”

Zero Motorcycles Cypher

Upgrades are available through the Cypher Store, which is an on-demand marketplace. This is a new thing for Zero and utilizes the company’s Cypher III+ operating system that’s on the 2022 motorcycles.

Here’s a look at what’s available:

  • Faster Charging
  • Extended Range
  • Speed & Performance Boost
  • Park Mode, Heated Grips
  • On-Dash Navigation

Personally, I think it’s bogus to gate features like this. If it’s built into the bike, it should be available to the rider, but I think this will be yet another way companies try to make money in the future, so get ready to see this kind of stuff roll out with motorcycle manufacturers across the industry.

This is how Zero puts its spin on it:

“The opportunity to customize your motorcycle on-demand is nothing short of revolutionary in the powersports industry,” said Jeremy Kent, GM of Software and Parts & Accessories for Zero Motorcycles. “We’ve created the ability to instantly improve the performance of our products without much more than a Wi-Fi signal, offering a dramatic shift in how Zero’s motorcycles can grow and evolve along with the owner.”

They’re positioning this as a value add to the customer, and I don’t see it that way. It’ll be interesting to see how people respond to this. I have a feeling people of a certain age will eat it up while older folks won’t like it.

2022 Zero SR

Finally, we get to the new Zero SR. The bike gets the ZF 75-10 motor tuned to deliver 122 ft-lb of torque, 74 hp, and reaches a top speed of 104 mph.

Advanced Bosch Motorcycle Stability Control, traction control, and drag torque controls, as well as a power boost, are available through the Cypher Store. Total battery capacity with all of the Cypher Store upgrades comes to 20.9 kWh.

The price of the motorcycle is $17, 995. It will arrive in dealerships in Q1 of 2022. Click here to see all that Zero Motorcycles offers.
