Honda just dropped the first episode of a behind-the-scenes YouTube series documenting the V3R 900 E-Compressor project, and the timing is no accident.
The series launched September 14, less than eight weeks before EICMA opens its doors in Milan on November 5.
From Engine Concept to Production Design
Critics have accused Honda of playing it safe in recent years. The V3R project looks like a direct response to that perception.
Honda showed the V3R as an engine concept at EICMA 2024, then followed it with a full motorcycle prototype at EICMA 2025. In July 2026, design patents filed in Australia and Japan surfaced showing a version with mirrors, turn signals, reflectors, and a license plate bracket installed.
Design images released in the filing exposed details the camouflaged prototype had hidden. The right cowl is larger than the left, housing the air intake and airbox, and Honda’s new wing tank emblem sits on the dividing line reserved for flagship models.
The engine layout is unusual enough that Honda wants it visible. Two cylinders point forward and one rearward in a 75-degree V, with the electrically driven compressor sitting above the front cylinder bank.
Honda’s stated target for the 900cc triple is output comparable to a 1,200cc engine. They call the power delivery philosophy “non-rail roller coaster,” meaning consistent torque whenever the rider asks for it.
EICMA 2026 Looms Large
A production design filing, a docuseries about development, and a major show approaching in two months is not random. The signs all point toward a production reveal in Milan.
Honda hasn’t released power figures or pricing yet. But filing production design patents with Australian and Japanese IP offices typically happens within months of an official unveiling.
