Vespa Elettrica and Elettrica X Make Electric Scooters Make Sense

Vespa Elettrica scooter

EVs make sense as peppy commuters, and Vespa the perfect scooter in the Elettrica.

While I’ll always love the rumble of an internal combustion engine, electric powertrains will likely dominate the future of vehicle technology.

Electricity will power cars, motorcycles, and scooters. Vespa is making that a reality with its new Elettrica.

The electric scooter has impressive performance stats. It’s power, range, recharge times, and everything else are exactly what I’d want in a commuter vehicle.

Say Hello to the Future of Scooters

Vespa, a part of the Piaggio Group, has succeeded where many automakers have failed by making an EV that actually makes sense. According to Cycle World, the company is already inundated with orders.

At the moment people still need cars for longer hauls. Commuters could easily get to their destination on a bike, though. The Elettrica has the electrified goods to get the job done.

The Elettrica can travel about 60 miles per charge on 2-kilowatt power, which will allow it to go about 20 mph. It can go half as far on 4-kilowatt power, which should be around or over 30 mph. It can fully recharge its battery at a standard wall outlet in just 4 hours. Those stats would be good enough for most urbanites.

For others who need more range, there’s the Elettrica X. It’s a unique hybrid scooter. It uses a small thermal engine with a 0.8-gallon tank to help recharge the small battery. This boosts the bike’s range to 120 miles.

The Elettrica is now on sale in Europe, and the Elettrica X will go on sale in 2019. The bike will come to the U.S. later on.

The fully electric Elettrica has a price tag of over $7,200. A high one, sure, but the innovative tech is costly, and if you compare that to some of the other higher-end scooters out there, it’s not completely outrageous.
