The Honda Scooter Lineup Is Fantastic and You Should Consider One

Honda Ruckus

If you need an affordable little bike for getting around I would point you towards the Honda scooter lineup. Honda manufactures some of the best scooters in the world.

Scooters often get disdain here in the U.S. I’ll say they’re not nearly as cool as a typical motorcycle, but they’re fun, affordable, fuel-efficient, and worth your money. Forget the haters, and enjoy the ease and simplicity of a scooter. Honda makes some of the best out there.

Here’s a closer look at each scooter in Honda’s lineup from the simple Honda Metropolitan scooter to the rugged and ready-for-trails ADV150.

Honda Metropolitan

If the name hasn’t tipped you off, the Honda Metropolitan scooter (priced at $2,599) was designed for the urban rider who needs a machine to get from one place to another. It features a 49cc liquid-cooled horizontal single-cylinder engine with fuel injection. That engine is mated to a fully automatic CVT, meaning this is a twist-and-go machine as pretty much all scooters are.

The smooth transmission and small but strong engine deliver amazing fuel economy and enough speed to keep up with traffic. Add to that a step-through design with a grocery bag hook and under-seat storage and you have pretty much everything you could need. I included this scooter in my best 50cc scooter list. It’s a fantastic machine.

The badass bike of the Honda scooter lineup is the Honda Ruckus (priced at $2,899). The bike had a brief hiatus due to emissions, but it’s back and better than ever. This scooter is lightweight, dependable, and fun, and its tubular frame design and dual headlights give it a badass look. The engine is a 49cc single-cylinder that’s liquid-cooled. It has a carburetor and is mated to a fully-automatic CVT.

There is also a unique tuning and custom scene for this scooter. It’s far more interesting than the following some of the other scooters in the world have. You can easily upgrade every aspect of a Ruckus and really make it your own. This bike also featured in my best 50cc scooter list and it was in my best scooters and motorcycles under $3,000 list.

Honda PCX

I’ve always thought of the Honda PCX (priced at $3,899) as the mini sportbike of the scooter world. That might be an over-exaggeration, but the PCX is a peppy and fun little scooter with a sporty disposition. The scooter offers a fuel-injected 156.9cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that’s mated to a fully-automatic CVT.

Pair that with ample under-seat cargo space, good brakes, a comfortable seat and riding position, and strong power and fuel economy, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better ride near this price point, which is why it made the cut for my list of best 150cc motorcycles and scooters.

Honda ADV150

Another bike that made my list of best 150cc motorcycles and scooters is the Honda ADV150 (priced at $4,299). Honda’s most interesting recent addition to its lineup, the ADV150 is designed for around-town commuting as well as some light trail riding. The scooter is sort of a PCX with new skin, a different engine, and off-road upgrades.

The bike has a 149cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that’s fuel-injected. That engine delivers its power smoothly and efficiently through a fully-automatic CVT. What really makes this bike good, though is its long-travel suspension and under-seat storage. It’s perfect for the urban jungle or the dusty trail.

Other Great Honda Bikes

Of course, Honda has plenty of other great bikes. If you’re looking for a small bike that’s easy to own and use, check out Honda’s MiniMOTO lineup. The new Honda Navi even offers a powertrain that’s essentially a scooter powertrain complete with a fully-automatic CVT, and it’s less expensive than other bikes (priced at $1,807).
