How Damon Motors’ Prototype EV Superbike Ended Up in a Storage Locker Auction

Damon Motors promised 200 horsepower, 200 miles of range, and a top speed over 200 mph from its electric superbike. Instead, the company folded, leaving behind prototypes, unfulfilled reservations from over 3,000 riders, and one very unusual story.

A half-assembled Damon HyperSport MK2 prototype recently sold at a storage locker auction in Vancouver, British Columbia, the company’s former headquarters. The locker changed hands when Damon failed to pay roughly $2,500 in accumulated rental fees. The buyer, a pair of siblings who didn’t initially know what they’d won, discovered multiple generations of fairing, charging equipment, a hollow motor display unit, and the incomplete prototype itself.

Damon Motors and Indika Energy have entered into a partnership, helping get Damon into the Indonesian market. Indika made an undisclosed investment in Damon and will be the distributor of the electric motorcycle for Indonesia.

Recently, I received an email from Damon Motors noting that the company had exceeded $90M order backlog, proving that people truly want this motorcycle.

Damon Motorcycles has a new model. Well, a couple of models. The Damon HyperFighter Colossus and the HyperFighter Unlimited were revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Based on the HyperSport motorcycle that I’ve written about multiple times both here on Wind Burned Eyes and over at Web Bike World, this new HyperFighter brings Damon’s innovative technology to a new segment in the industry.

As you might expect from the name, this bike is a streetfighter. It’s a muscular, badass version of Damon’s technology packaged to be for those ready for a stripped-down experience.

Damon Motorcycles Says About Half Its Sales are From Millennials

I had a chance to chat with the CEO and Co-Founder of Damon Motorcycles, Jay Giraud. We talked about the new version of his Hypersport electric motorcycle, but we also talked about what kind of response he has elicited from the market.

Giraud said that he was surprised by all the press coverage, and he also said that about half of the people who have placed pre-orders for the motorcycle were Millennials, which is surprising considering how other motorcycle manufacturers are targeting that generation of people.
