Shineray Makes a Chinese Clone of the Harley-Davidson Evolution V-Twin

The darn thing looks nearly identical.

Shineray Clones Harley-Davidson Evolution V-Twin

Shineray, a company in China, appears to have produced a V-twin engine that looks nearly identical to Harley-Davidson’s Evolution V-Twin engine.

If there’s one thing that Chinese manufacturing companies are good at, it’s imitation.

This has to be annoying for companies out there. The engine doesn’t just borrow the overall design and orientation of the engine, it even looks a lot like Harley’s Sportster engine down to the details.

Shineray’s V-Twin Makes Similar Power Numbers, Too

So, is this really the same darn engine? It sure seems like about as close of a rip-off as you can get, though I’m sure the company would deny it.

The fins, the rocker covers, and the pushrod covers all look the same. Also, this engine is a 1,200cc engine with four camshafts that actuate one valve, according to RideApart.

In terms of power, the Chinese-made engine makes 60 horsepower and 66.4 lb-ft of torque with a 9.1:1 compression ratio. Harley-Davidson’s engine makes a very similar 67 horsepower 73 lb-ft of torque at a 10:1 compression ratio.

Shineray bought Italian motorcycle company SWM not too long ago. It sells various displacements of cruisers that have a liquid-cooled engine. This new air-cooled engine is likely coming to that lineup or a new line of SWM cruisers.

I doubt the company will bring the bikes here. It would be a bold move to challenge Harley’s cruisers in their own backyard.
