At EICMA this year, the Honda Hornet Concept made an appearance. This was the first time Honda revealed the bike publicly.

While many of the EICMA reveals were expected, this particular bike was something novel.

Let’s take a closer look at the Honda Hornet Concept and what it promises for the future.

Honda Hornet Concept – A Sharp-Looking Naked Sportster

In profile, you can tell the Hornet’s proportions and relative engine size.

The Honda Hornet from what I can tell looks like it will compete with something like the KTM Duke motorcycles. It’s going to be a sporty, modern, naked bike with a strong engine and likely plenty of technology.

Honda was rather tight-lipped about this bike beyond what they had at the show. Here’s what the company said about this bike:

“Honda is also pleased to confirm that the illustrious Hornet name will return to its line-up in the near future. The Hornet has been renowned for delivering exhilarating engine performance and agility matched to cutting-edge street-fighter styling since the model was first introduced in Europe in 1998.

A sneak preview of the concept direction for the new incarnation of the Hornet will be available for visitors to EICMA. Showcased in a special area within the Honda stand, projection mapping is used to full effect in a vivid 3D display of light and sound that both looks back at previous Hornet generations, and forward to what is to come.”

The sharp lines of the Hornet mean it should be a sporty machine.

It’s unclear what engine Honda will use but the engine showcased looked smaller than the 1,084cc used in the Africa Twin. It will likely be a 650cc, 750cc, or 800cc motorcycle.

I think this is likely a smart addition to the Honda lineup. Honda needs a good modern and sporty naked bike that will rival the likes of the KTM Duke 890. This new Honda Hornet, which is a 2022 model year bike, could be it.

The Honda Hornet name is one that the company has used in the past. It was attached to the Honda CB series of motorcycles. If you want to see some of those bikes, check out the eBay listings for them.
