Ducati announced it sold more bikes in 2021 than ever before. Globally, the company sold 59,447 motorcycles.
From 2020 to 2021 that’s an increase of 24 percent, which is a massive jump for the Italian brand.
The growth was seen in all main markets, including the US. Ducati has seen growth in the past but not like this.
Continued Growth for Ducati
If you look at the last few years, Ducati has been on the up and up, but this year blew things out of the water. A 24 percent increase over 2020 is no joke, and even though Ducati sold more bikes in 2019, 2021’s sales are still 12 percent higher.
The United States was the leading market for the brand, with 9,007 motorcycles being sold here. Following the US was Italy, and some other countries in Europe.
Another big area of growth was China. With the country’s economy still going strong, Ducati saw a jump of 21 percent there, to a strong 4,901 sales.
“2021 was a magical year for Ducati. We delivered over 59,000 motorcycles, a number never achieved before in 95 years of the company’s history,” said Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali. “We also won the title of MotoGP Constructors’ World Champion for the second consecutive year, and we started the electric era of our company with the V21L prototype, which foresees the bike that will race in the MotoE championship from 2023. The pandemic, which is still underway, in addition to generating so much suffering, has also made activities more complex, forcing us to conduct a continuous internal reorganization. Supply chains created delivery delays for which I want to apologize to all Ducatisti, thanking them for their patience.”
Domenicali also noted many of the challenges with supply chains and delivering on new motorcycles during the pandemic.
The company’s standout bikes include the new Multistrada V4, Scrambler 800, and the Monster. These bikes were the lion’s share of the sales.
Ducati has several highly desirable bikes right now, and the Ducati DesertX is coming out soon, which should only help with the company’s sales. It will be interesting to see what sales in 2022 shape up to be. The company has many challenges, but so far it’s been able to overcome them and deliver bikes to customers.
