The saga surrounding a potential takeover of Ducati Motor Holding has taken a definitive turn, as leaked documents from investment firm Patritalia S.p.A. reveal that the iconic Italian brand is not on the market.

Initial reports suggested Patritalia’s founder, Massimo Ros, had submitted an unsolicited 2.5 billion euro proposal to Volkswagen Group to buy Ducati in its entirety.

Ducati Will Still Be Owned by VW

The firm’s stated mission was to return foreign-owned Italian brands back to domestic hands, along with plans to expand Ducati’s presence in racing categories like Moto2 and Supermotard.

However, internal correspondence released by the investment group clarifies that Volkswagen quickly shut down the approach.

In a follow-up email dated June 25, 2026, Ros acknowledged a direct response from Volkswagen Group management declining the buyback proposal. The document explicitly confirms Patritalia’s acknowledgment of Volkswagen’s stance, noting that the firm fully understands Ducati is currently not for sale.

Both Ducati North America and parent company Audi reinforced this message, emphasizing that Ducati remains a highly successful, profitable core asset.

While Volkswagen routinely performs internal portfolio reviews as part of standard corporate management, company leadership confirmed there are no active sales processes, negotiations, or decisions underway to offload the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer.
