Yamaha appears ready to bring the XSR155 to the United States for 2027, giving American riders a small retro-styled roadster with the proportions of a full-size motorcycle. The model surfaced in Yamaha Motor Corp. USA vehicle identification data submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The filing also suggests the XSR155 could replace the V-Star 250 as Yamaha’s road-only entry-level motorcycle here. There is no official U.S. price or launch date yet, but the model’s appearance in the 2027 data makes this more than a typical rumor.
A Small Yamaha With Full-Size Proportions
The XSR155 is already sold in markets including India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Its design follows the same basic family language as the XSR700 and XSR900, with a rounded LED headlight, a matching taillight, a sculpted 2.6-gallon tank, and a tuck-and-roll seat with a raised passenger section.
Power comes from a liquid-cooled 155cc single-cylinder engine with four valves, variable valve actuation, and a six-speed transmission. Yamaha lists output between 18 and 19 horsepower in overseas markets, while the U.S. VIN data confirms a maximum output figure of 17.2 horsepower.
That motor sits in a Deltabox frame suspended by a 37mm inverted fork and a linked rear monoshock. ByBre brakes, dual-channel ABS, traction control, an Assist and Slipper clutch, and a round LCD instrument add equipment that is not always found on motorcycles in this displacement class.

Why The XSR155 Could Matter
Yamaha’s move would place another sub-200cc, full-sized motorcycle in the American market. Honda started that recent push with the XR150L, Kawasaki followed with the W175 LTD, and Yamaha already has the WR125R in its broader lineup.
The company has not said whether the U.S. version will match the overseas specifications or receive different equipment. For now, the strongest takeaway is simple: a light Yamaha with a low seat, manageable output, and a larger-bike silhouette may soon give new riders another route into the brand’s Sport Heritage range.
Yamaha previously collaborated with Zeus Customs on an XSR155 special edition, but the possible 2027 U.S. arrival would be a much broader development. You can see that older custom treatment in our earlier XSR155 feature.
