BMW Motorrad Reveals the Electric Concept CE 02

If you’re a young urbanite who loves all things two wheels, then you’re probably on board with the electrified future, at least BMW Motorrad’s Concept CE 02 assumes that.

The new concept bike from BMW is a sort of mashup of an e-bike, motorcycle, and scooter into one machine that’s designed to appeal to the next generation of riders.

This bike won’t blow away sportbikes on the road or cruise like a Harley, but that’s so far from the point. This is a new kind of electric motorbike.

The BMW Concept CE 02 Hints at the Company’s Future

The bike will be aimed at A1 riders in Europe. With this in mind, the performance numbers make sense.

While the performance numbers aren’t set in stone (this is a concept, remember), they aren’t too bad. According to RideApart, you’re looking at about 15 hp and a top speed of about 55 mph.

As for range, you’ll get to go pretty far, at about 55 miles per charge. That should be plenty for a morning commute. Any longer and you’ll have to charge up that battery. Also, it’s worth noting that riding at 55 mph all the time will reduce that range.

The bike weighs about 265 pounds, so it will be a nimble little thing, and likely very fun to ride, with a seat height under 29 inches.

BMW didn’t provide all of the technical data with the reveal of this bike, so there are still some important questions about the battery makeup and the electric motor the company used. However, I will say this is an impressive step in a smart direction for the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer.

There’s no telling if BMW will bring this or something like this to market, but I would expect they will. It will likely lose some of the style you see here and look more like the company’s current production motorcycles, which isn’t a bad thing.
