Yuasa Battery Celebrates 45th Year in North America

Yuasa Battery history

Yuasa Battery, the company that’s been starting millions of bikes everywhere, is celebrating its 45th year in the North American market as a major powersports battery manufacturer, with origins dating back more than a century. That’s a huge milestone for the motorcycle battery company and something bikers everywhere should recognize.

45 Years of Yuasa Battery Starting Our Bikes

The company was established in Japan in 1918 by Mr. Shichizaemon Yuasa, initially focusing on storage batteries for industrial use before expanding into the motorcycle industry in the 1920s.

By the 1950s, Yuasa had begun establishing manufacturing plants globally, ultimately becoming a leading powersports battery provider, now supplying around 80% of batteries for major OEMs. Joe Majesky played a crucial role in Yuasa’s growth as a premier battery choice over his 47 years in the industry

Yuasa entered the North American market in 1979, introducing its first conventional battery that same year, followed by the Yumicron battery in 1982, and the world’s first maintenance-free AGM battery in 1983.

The company has since launched the YTZ Series for more powerful AGM batteries in 1999 and the GYZ Series in 2008 to meet the growing demands of aftermarket accessories and OEM electronics.

Additionally, Yuasa sponsors powersport riders, events, and races, appearing at gatherings like Sturgis Buffalo Chip and Americade to provide services like free battery replacements.

The company’s product offerings include the YTZ Series for sportbikes, the GYZ Series for touring bikes, and the Yumicron Series for conventional batteries. Explore Yuasa’s motorcycle batteries on their website to learn more.
