The Yamaha “RD256” is a stunning restomod tribute built by Matt of Big Dream Motorcycles, designed to honor the legendary Canadian racer Michelle (Mike) Duff.

The project takes its name and visual inspiration from the Yamaha RD56, the iconic machine Duff rode to Grand Prix victories in the 1960s. Using a 1974 RD250 as the foundation, Matt blended vintage Grand Prix aesthetics with modern performance components to create a “hybritza” that is as capable on the track as it is beautiful to look at.

The build features a rebuilt and ported two-stroke engine equipped with Mikuni VM34 carburetors and Vape ignition, pushing output to approximately 45 horsepower.

To modernize the handling, Matt swapped the original front end for an inverted fork from a Cagiva Mito 125 and added Racetech rear shocks, SM Pro supermoto wheels, and high-performance Golfren disc brakes.

Wrapped in replica RD56 bodywork with a striking red-and-white livery, the finished bike weighs less than 250 lbs, resulting in a lightweight, high-revving machine that serves as a fitting rolling monument to Canada’s motorcycle racing heritage.
