This is a custom Honda XR400R, a true “Baja-Style Weapon,” forged by the hands of an Australian builder and content creator known as Prutti. The Honda XR400R, first unleashed in ’96 and revered for its rock-solid reliability long after its 2004 production end, was the perfect canvas.

Prutti’s vision? To craft the “ultimate middleweight XR,” a machine that blended style, nostalgia, and the kind of hard-nosed functionality needed for multi-day expeditions deep into the bush.

This Custom Honda XR400R Is Ready for Any Adventure

He started with a 2001 XR400R, stripping it down to its very bones before giving the frame a fresh coat of white powder. The suspension was revalved, tuned for whatever the outback might throw its way.

A DC conversion was added, bringing modern LED lighting to the party, and an oversized fuel tank found its place, ready for those long stretches between fuel stops.

The machine rolls on black rims shod with aggressive Pirelli tires, ready to claw for traction. Larger footpegs offer a solid stance, and a gripper seat cover keeps the rider planted. An RK chain transmits the power, while ODI bars and grips, paired with handguards, keep the controls in check. And up front, those distinctive Baja-style dual headlights stare down the darkness.

The finished product, Prutti says, retains that “unmistakable XR grunt and old-school character” we all love, but it’s now significantly more capable and comfortable for conquering any terrain. Prutti’s proud of this build’s sheer practicality, how every piece came together just right. This isn’t some garage queen; this is a bike meant to be ridden, and ridden hard.
