You have plenty of options when it comes to your next motorcycle, but if you want a really nice amount of power then 900cc might be the way to go. But you need to make sure you buy one of the best 900cc motorcycles.
You’ll find a wide variety of bikes at this displacement, and they provide a bit more power than you’ll find at 800 or 850cc without going too far off the deep end in terms of performance and engine size.
A 900cc machine can be a very sensible bike for an experienced or intermediate rider. With that in mind, let’s take a look at my picks for the best 900cc motorcycles on sale right now.
1. Triumph Speed Twin 900
A super-cool classic, the Triumph Speed Twin 900 looks as cool as any old-school Triumph, but this new bike is next-level good. The Speed Twin offers a whole lot to love.
The liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine has a displacement of 900cc, and it makes 64 hp and 59 lb-ft of torque. Triumph has tuned this engine to be approachable but fun for all types of riders, and the engine also has the power to make highway runs easily doable. It’s a great all-around bike and one you should certainly consider.

2. KTM 890 Duke R
Yes, the 890cc liquid-cooled two-cylinder engine is a little under the 900cc mark, but this one is right there, and it is a new and it’s a killer motorcycle. It makes 120 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque.
The KTM 809 Adventure R is extremely good on road and off. It will handle a trail or a twisty canyon road with absolute ease. While the 790 Adventure is a great motorcycle and one you can consider, the 890 Adventure R is a step up and should put pretty much everything close to its price point behind it.

3. Kawasaki Z900 RS ABS
If you like retro styling but want a modern bike, then you’ll be hard-pressed to do better than the Kawasaki Z900RS. This motorcycle has the classic styling you crave and the modern performance you expect from a bike in 2020.
The motorcycle features a liquid-cooled 948cc inline four-cylinder engine that makes a strong 72.3 lb-ft of torque. There’s also the Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe if you want some killer cafe racer styling.

4. BMW F 900 XR
The BMW F 900 XR is a fabulous motorcycle that’s comfortable on any road. It’s a fantastic sport touring machine, and I know ADV bikes have kind of made a lot of sport tourers irrelevant, but I still love this motorcycle.
The latest version of the model features BMW Motorrad Connectivity, stability control, adjustable brake and clutch levels, self-canceling turn signals, and an adjustable windshield. The bike also features a liquid-cooled two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 895cc. That engine makes a strong 99 hp, and the bike has the handling chops to really carve up a canyon road, too.

5. Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro
The Tiger 900 Rally Pro is fabulous. The company’s other ADV bikes are excellent, but I like this one. There are a lot of other great competitors, but The Tiger 900 Rally Pro just feels special.
It get the same 888cc liquid-cooled triple. I know, it’s a bit under 900cc, but I don’t care. It puts out about 94 hp, which should be more than enough power for all of your needs, and the bike is at home both on the street and on the trail.

Other Great Motorcycles at This Displacement
There are a few other great motorcycles at this displacement or near it. Kawasaki sells plenty of them with the same engine as is in the Z900RS shown above. Yamaha has a couple of bikes close (the Yamaha MT-09 and the Tracer 9 GT+), and so do some other manufacturers.
While many of these machines are good and would make fine examples, not all of them are worthy of this list, at least in my eyes. The five above are my top picks and just about every rider out there should be able to find a bike that works for them out of the options listed above.
