Honda V3 Engine Teased Again

Honda V3 Engine

Honda has recently released a new video teasing the innovative V3 engine concept that was previously presented. This new video gives some more details, and it’s looking pretty great

Honda is charting a new course in motorcycle engine development, showcasing a groundbreaking V3 engine concept with a world-first electric supercharger. Unveiled at EICMA 2024, this innovative powerplant signals a renewed focus on high-performance internal combustion engines that can meet future emissions standards.

The Honda V3 Engine Could Usher In a New Era

The new V3 is a compact, liquid-cooled, 75-degree V-configuration engine. Its most distinctive feature is the electric compressor, which provides a key advantage over traditional superchargers and turbos.

Unlike systems that rely on engine speed, the electric supercharger can control the intake air compression independently, ensuring instant torque delivery and eliminating lag across the entire rev range. This also simplifies the engine’s packaging by negating the need for an intercooler, saving space and weight.

While Honda has yet to release official specifications, rumors suggest a displacement of around 850cc. The dyno footage in a recent teaser video hints at a torque figure of approximately 147 Nm, a level typically seen in much larger engines. This indicates the electric supercharger is highly effective at boosting performance from a smaller, more efficient package.

The V3 engine is not just a concept; Honda has stated it is being developed for mass production and will serve as the base for a new line of larger-displacement models. The company has already filed trademarks for names like “V3R,” suggesting a new sportbike is on the horizon.

The teaser video and design sketches point to a trellis-framed roadster or sportbike, a departure from Honda’s current models, and a move that has generated significant excitement among enthusiasts. This new engine represents Honda’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of motorcycle engineering, promising a future of thrilling and technologically advanced bikes.
