The 2026 BMW R 1300 RT is a technological marvel, blending performance and comfort for long-distance touring. Powered by a 1,300cc air/liquid-cooled Boxer engine with ShiftCam variable valve timing, it delivers 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 109.9 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm.

The six-speed transmission is now located beneath the engine, offering riders a choice between traditional manual shifting and BMW’s new Automated Shift Assistant.

BMW Built a Better BMW R 1300 RT

The R 1300 RT’s design features straighter lines, aligning it with the R 1300 GS and GS Adventure models. BMW describes its profile as reminiscent of a “strong, enduring, long-distance runner,” a departure from the previous model’s “sprinter” stance. A taller windscreen, standard on all variants except the Triple Black, enhances this visual.

Adjustable fairing pieces, available on the Impulse and Option 719 Camargue variants, can be repositioned to improve rider comfort. Ergonomic updates include wider handlebars set slightly forward and a gentler slope on the rear of the fuel tank, allowing for a sportier yet relaxed riding posture.

The seat is adjustable in height and tilt, accommodating various rider preferences. Passenger comfort is also enhanced with more leg space and redesigned 27-liter side cases.

The R 1300 RT employs EVO Telelever front suspension with a flex element to improve rigidity, especially noticeable with the wider handlebars. Braking is managed by dual front discs with radial-mount four-piston calipers and a single rear disc with a two-piston caliper, all integrated with BMW’s Integral ABS Pro linked braking system. An optional sport brake package offers higher-spec titanium-colored calipers.

In summary, the 2026 BMW R 1300 RT combines advanced technology, refined ergonomics, and a fresh design to deliver a superior touring experience. Learn more on BMW’s website.
