The Praga ZS 800 Is a Glorious, Hand-Made Motorcycle

Praga ZS 800 hero photo with two bikes side by side.

The Praga ZS 800 looks like a blast from the past, a blast from 1928 to be exact. The new ZS 800 is based on the classic 1928 Praga BD 500 motorcycle, but this is a modern machine and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Praga ZS 800 Is the Company’s New Offering on Two Wheels

Praga is known for making other types of vehicles that are not motorcycles, but the ZS 800 isn’t the company’s first foray into bikes. It has been making them since the late 1920s, and this new bike pays homage to that heritage.

The ZS 800 features tons of nice touches and endless beautiful details. Here are a couple of things that stood out to me:

  • Carbon wheels with integrated drum brakes.
  • Girder front fork and hardtail rear with Ohlins TTX Air under the seat.
  • Curb weight of 142 kg, which is just over 313 pounds.
  • Perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
  • Structural fuel tank that has a capacity of 11.5 liters.
  • Materials include chromoly steel, forged carbon, and titanium.
  • Titanium exhaust system with 3D-printed elements.
  • Kawasaki W800 engine with 50 hp and 65 NM of torque.
  • 5-speed transmission with multi-plate wet, manual clutch.

I don’t see the price on the company’s website, but Cycle World puts it at $98,500, which is a truly high price for a motorcycle. But then, this is no common high-production motorcycle. The materials, the over 300 hours of machining for components, the painstaking attention to detail, and the way the whole package comes together make this motorcycle a truly special machine and well worth the price.

Check it out on Praga’s website.

The Bike Shed had the opportunity to speak with Ivan Krakora, the CMO of Praga about the bike, and then take it on a little ride. Check it out below.
